This season has shown that Daniel Sturridge does not figure in Jurgen Klopp's plans at Liverpool.

The striker has had a clean bill of health for the majority of the campaign, but has only started five Premier League matches for the Merseyside outfit.

Rumours were rife that the Reds had given the green light for Sturridge to move elsewhere.

Numerous clubs were linked with the striker's signature, including Sevilla, Newcastle United and West Ham United.

However, in the end, the 28-year-old signed for West Bromwich Albion on a loan deal until the end of the season.

From the player's point of view, it will give him a good opportunity to get some minutes under his belt ahead of England's squad selection for the World Cup.

Ex-Manchester United captain Gary Neville thinks that the club could end up regretting the deal.

During Sky Sports' The Debate show, the pundit suggested that Sturridge would have been the best back-up option to call upon if Liverpool suffer any injuries in the second half of the season.

“I’m looking at that list of ins and outs and it’s gone under the radar. And I look at Sturridge. People are saying ‘Sturridge isn’t playing anymore, it’s not a big loss’.

“Firmino gets injured for two months. Liverpool are in the Champions League and are trying to get into the top four… Danny Ings and Solanke. Were they wise to let him go? It just seemed a crazy one for me for a massive risk.”
