New Liverpool boss makes former star major target (not Lewy, Reus or Hummels)

New Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is eager to snap up one of his former players in the shape of Ilkay Gundogan, according to reports from CalcioMercatoWeb.

The German was officially unveiled as the Kop outfit’s new boss at the end of last week, ending a period of much speculation following Brendan Rodgers’ sacking a matter of days earlier.

Klopp has been linked with a host of his ex-Dortmund players – who he has publicly played down moves for – but reports claim that he is eager to reunite with Gundogan.

The deep-lying playmaker was a key cog on Klopp’s BVB team, and even scored in their 2013 Champions League Final defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich.

The 24-year-old is understood to have a great working relationship with his former manager, which may help the Merseysiders should they launch a January move.
