In the final act of what has already been a dramatic, unpredictable and fantastic weekend of Premier League action, Newcastle United play hosts to Liverpool this afternoon with a 4pm kick-off at St. James’ Park.
Few are betting against the Reds for this one; they’re amid a run of five consecutive victories across all competitions – including a 4-1 romping of title favourites Manchester City – whilst the Magpies have picked up just eight points from their last eleven Premier League outings.
Likewise, Newcastle don’t have much luck in this fixture. The Tyneside outfit have picked up six red cards during their last six encounters with Liverpool whilst claiming just a single win compared to the visitors’ three.
But Leicester City’s emphatic rise to the top of the table, Stoke City’s trouncing of the Citizens yesterday afternoon and Bournemouth’s shock 1-0 win over reigning champions Chelsea prove anything is possible in the Premier League.
So could Steve McClaren get Newcastle’s season back on track with an unexpected win against Jurgen Klopp’s side? Perhaps the official starting Xis, confirmed on Twitter just moments ago, can shed some light on today’s result.
