Liverpool are expected to dump Alberto Moreno in 2019, and the Reds can kill two birds with one stone by moving for Fulham sensation Ryan Sessegnon.
Liverpool are expected to allow Moreno to leave the club for free next summer, according to GOAL.com.
The Spaniard’s contract will run out at the end of the season, and the report claims the Reds are happy to give academy prospect Adam Lewis the chance to be Andy Robertson’s understudy.
A move for Sessegnon would be far better though, as the English wonderkid can also play on the left wing, a position that is seriously lacking some depth.
Sadio Mane is the obvious first choice in that spot, but title rivals Manchester City have two top quality options in pretty much every position, something that can’t currently be said for the Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
Sessegnon’s ability to support both Mane and Robertson would see him get plenty of playing time as the season wears on, and the Reds should absolutely re-visit their interest in the 18-year-old.
Fulham’s rising star has only got one goal and one assist so far this season, but the Cottagers’ poor form may just have something to do with that, sitting bottom of the league with just one win in 12 games.
The youngster did fire a dangerous warning shot just wide of Alisson Becker’s post during their 2-0 defeat at Anfield on Sunday, and he showed last season exactly what he is capable of.
After scoring five times and adding three assists in his first season in professional football in 2016-17, the flying full back was moved up to left wing last season, scoring 16 Championship goals and adding eight assists.
He doesn’t have the electric pace that one might associate with Liverpool’s wingers, but he certainly has the burst of acceleration required to skip past defenders, something Trent Alexander-Arnold found out on a couple of occasions on Sunday.
The 18-year-old is extremely composed on the ball, and Jurgen Klopp has already proven he can turn talented wide players into goalscoring machines.
Sessegnon is certainly not the polished article, but the Fulham wonderkid is already a superior left back to Moreno and a better left winger than any Liverpool player not named Mane.
In fact, the £31.5m-rated Championship player of the year might just be Klopp and sporting director Michael Edwards’ smartest signing yet.
