Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has had something of a tough time during his international career.
The Liverpool man has over 30 caps for his national team, but due to poorly-timed injuries, he’s still only played in one major tournament for his country.
The former Arsenal man may have had worries about his international future after watching the Three Lions’ thrive in the 2018 World Cup from the sidelines, but he should be reassured by Gareth Southgate’s recent comments about him.
The England manager spoke very highly about the Liverpool man as he claimed his best position is in the middle of the park.

“He’s a midfield player, he presses well, he makes runs in behind defences, he can score goals and he can create goals either with a pass or with a cross, so he fits that berth perfectly,” Southgate said about Oxlade-Chamberlain in a video package produced by ITV that aired on their coverage of England vs Kosovo (17/11).
This is a very reassuring comment from the Three Lions gaffer.
The fact that he thinks Oxlade-Chamberlain is perfect for a midfield role is very promising for the midfielder’s international future.
These comments certainly make it seem as if the Ox will be a regular under the former Middlesbrough boss in the coming months, and if he stays fit he very well could be a part of the Euro 2020 squad.
