Former Arsenal attacker Paul Merson has claimed that Liverpool will find it difficult to overcome Crystal Palace in the Premier League this weekend.
Liverpool currently sit top of the Premier League table on 57 points, four points clear of second-placed Manchester City after 22 matches.
Jurgen Klopp’s side bounced back from their 2-1 defeat at Man City on January 3 with a 1-0 victory away to Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend.
The Reds are in charge of their own destiny as things stand, but any slip from the Merseyside giants would give the reigning champions the chance to capitalise.
Palace will arrive at Anfield on Saturday off the back of just one victory from their last four Premier League matches, although that was an impressive 2-0 success away to Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier this month.
Merson has predicted that Liverpool will squeeze past Palace at Anfield, but the pundit has said that it is ‘a dangerous fixture’ for Klopp’s team.
Merson told Sky Sports:
“This is a dangerous fixture. It could be a problem for Liverpool. Palace have the tools to hurt them. They’ve got major pace and match-winners in Andros Townsend and Wilfried Zaha.
“They’ve also got an unbelievable manager in Roy Hodgson, who doesn’t get the credit he deserves. He knows how to win these types of games. I think they’ll score.
“However, if Liverpool are serious about winning the league they must win the game. If they do it could also be a psychological advantage over Man City, who lost to Palace.”
Liverpool’s next three in the Premier League are against Palace, Leicester City and West Ham United.
The Reds will then host Bournemouth on February 9 ahead of the small matter of the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash with Bayern Munich on February 19.
