Potential future team-mate pleads with Liverpool flop to join him

Mario Balotelli’s Liverpool transfer saga has taken yet another twist, with reports from Gazzetta dello Sport claiming that Sampdoria forward Antonio Cassano has pleaded with his compatriot to join him at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

‘Super Mario’ has only been with the Reds for 12 months, but his career at Anfield has been far from the success many predicted when the club paid AC Milan £16m for his signature.

The 25-year-old has, thus far, netted just once in the Premier League, and reports have claimed that Brendan Rodgers has informed the striker that he has no future on Merseyside.

Interest from Italy has been rife amid Balotelli’s recent issues, with Sampdoria one of the interested parties.

Although there have been claims that ‘Balo’ is ready to stay and claim a significant loyalty bonus for doing so, Cassano is understood to have text the his fellow Italian, urging him to move to the Genoa-based side:

“Come to Sampdoria and you will not regret it, together we will do great things.” Gazzetta dello Sport claim the message read.

Cassano, who also has a reputation as being a maverick player, recently joined Sampdoria following a spell without a club.

The pair played together for Italy at EURO 2012, helping the Azzurri to the final.
