Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has claimed that Roberto Firmino 'is one of the most underrated players in the Premier League'.

Firmino starred in Liverpool's thrilling 4-3 win over Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

The 26-year-old has now scored 17 times in 31 appearances for his English club this season - including 10 goals and five assists in 22 Premier League fixtures.

Carragher has claimed that Firmino does not receive the praise that he deserves when it comes to being recognised as one of the shining lights in the division.

Indeed, the player-turned-pundit has said that the Brazil international is 'the first name on the teamsheet' at Liverpool, even ahead of the likes of Mohamed Salah.

Carragher told Sky Sports:

"Firmino is one of the most underrated players in the Premier League - he's highly rated by Jurgen Klopp but outside Liverpool he's not mentioned when talked about top strikers.

"He's got 17 goals this season - he's the first name on the teamsheet. Yes, you've got Salah and Mane, but Firmino's hold-up play and work off the ball makes him one of the best attacking players in the Premier League. He's a top player."

Liverpool signed Firmino from Hoffenheim in the summer of 2015, and he has managed 31 goals in 88 Premier League appearances for the Reds.

Jurgen Klopp's side will attempt to continue their impressive run of form when they travel to Swansea City on January 22.
