According to a recent report from Daily Mirror, Liverpool are interested in acquiring the services of RB Leipzig's Timo Werner but might face some competition from fellow Premier League rivals Chelsea.

The 23-year-old goal-machine - who scored a total of 25 goals and assisted a further ten in the first 26 games he's played for the club in 2019/20 - is rated at £60m, as per the same outlet.

Call yourself a Liverpool expert? How much did each of these big-money January signings cost?

Mirror also go on to state that Jurgen Klopp has been a long-time admirer of his compatriot.

But is Werner really good enough to slot into the Reds' star filled squad?

To answer that question we sought the opinions of those who know him best...

Joshua Kimmich, Bayern Munich star

Kimmich was full of praise for his rival back when Bayern Munich were set to face RB Leipzig in the DFB Cup final and he singled him out as one of the opposition's most dangerous players.

He hailed his pace and proficiency in the box, stating that Werner can finish with both of his feet and his head.

Here's what Kimmich said, as quoted by Bundesliga.com:

"He's unbelievably quick, has a tremendous nose for goal and is a great finisher.

"He doesn’t take long to finish things off. He can score with his right, left and his head."

Dayot Upamecano, Werner's teammate

RB Leipzig's defender Dayot Upamecano had to face Werner on numerous occasions during their training sessions at the club and he's pretty happy that he doesn't have to do that in real games.

When speaking to Bundesliga.com, the defender emphasised how the 23-year-old forward could go on to become one of the best strikers in the world and hailed his technique and finishing.

It has to be noted that the quote was taken from a couple of years ago but Werner is still young and that makes Upamecano's prophecy still very much possible.

We'll have to wait and see what happens in the not so distant future.

Here's what he said in full:

"I’m happy we’re on the same team because he’s difficult for opposition players to stop; his pace, his exceptional technique and finishing – he’s a class striker.

"He definitely has the potential to become one of the best strikers in the world."

Gerald Asamoah, Former Germany and Schalke star

Finally, Asamoah was also left in awe of Werner's ability. In fact, so much so that he said that Germany can win the World Cup with him in tow, that's how confident he was in the youngster.

Of course, that was prior to the tournament's 2018 iteration in Russia, and even though they couldn't clinch the title, the former Schalke star clearly believes RB Leipzig's forward has developed sensationally.

At Stuttgart, he wasn't a complete striker but at Leipzig that has completely changed.

Here's what he said in full, as quoted by Bundesliga.com:

"With him, Germany can win the World Cup. He's a strong finisher, very fast, can get in behind defences and create space in deep-lying positions. Timo Werner is just very, very good.

"You have to ask yourself, what happened to the boy in Leipzig? He was pretty good in Stuttgart, but not a complete scorer – how he's developed at Leipzig is sensational."

Verdict

If Klopp really wants to add more firepower to his already well-oiled machine, Werner seems like the perfect fit.

He's quick, strong and lethal in the opposition's box and Liverpool would surely be getting a fantastic player.
