As reported by Spanish outlet Don Balon, Liverpool’s Brazilian superstar Philippe Coutinho is a target for both Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Don Balon reckon that Madrid and Barcelona are both viable destinations for Coutinho come next summer with the Liverpool man preferring a move to Real Madrid.
Barcelona are said to be doing their best to get their man though, relying on his close relationship with Neymar to try and get the info they need to get the deal over the line.
The Spanish outlet says that both teams face a fight to make the deal stick with PSG also in the picture as a potential destination.
With Europe’s biggest clubs circling for his signature, just how long can Liverpool hold on to their star man?
Coutinho has spent almost four years at Anfield and his season so far is one of his best for the Reds. The Brazilian international scored 10 goals and contributed 5 more assists before picking up his injury in a 2-0 home win vs. Sunderland in November.
That’s a lot of goals that would need replaced and we’re not sure £40m can buy that sort of contribution in today’s English Premier League market.
Like the Luis Suarez scenario though, it could be ultimately out of their control whether or not he goes. All Liverpool can demand is a fair fee for the contribution so far, which anyone would agree has been significant.
Perhaps the best the Liverpool faithful can hope for is that the Brazilian stays until the summer and doesn’t leave them without a replacement in January.
