The Daily Telegraph is reporting that Liverpool have been considering an approach for Real Madrid chief scout Juni Calafat.

What's the story?

Brazilian Calafat joined Los Merengues in 2014, and his work in bringing in young players has not gone unnoticed across Europe.

Call yourself a Liverpool expert? How much did each of these big-money January signings cost?

Now, a host of Premier League clubs are interested in the 47-year-old. The teams mentioned other than the Reds are Chelsea and Everton.

Proven talent

Calafat has something of a reputation for taking top, young talent to the Santiago Bernabeu. One of his first signings whilst in Spain was Martin Odegaard, who joined from Stromsgodset for €3m (£2.5m) in 2015.

The then 16-year-old was already the youngest player ever to appear for his country, Norway, and was also the youngest to feature in the nation's top flight.

He then made history with Real by becoming their youngest-ever player.

Whilst he struggled to live up to expectations at first, making just two appearances in his first two seasons, recent loan spells at Vitesse Arnhem and Real Sociedad - he won Player of the Year at the former and has seven goals and eight assists in 24 matches so far this term for the latter - suggest he is every bit of the player many thought he would be.

He has also been responsible for the acquisitions of the likes of Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo and Federico Valverde, all of whom having appeared regularly for Zinedine Zidane's team so far this campaign, whilst recent signing Reinier Jesus from Flamengo is also one of his own.

Clearly, he has the ability to bring in some of the world's best talent.

It remains to be seen where he ends up in the future.

Meanwhile, this 21-year-old hot-shot could be Adam Lallana's perfect replacement.
