Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has played down speculation that the club will move for Liverpool’s Luis Suarez this January.
The Uruguayan striker actively sought a switch to the Bernaebu over the summer, citing a lack of Champions League football at Anfield and media treatment as major factors in his decision.
However, Real instead opted to pursue Gareth Bale, Isco and Asier Illarramendi as their big money arrivals, leaving them unable to move for Suarez.
The South America eventually apologised for his actions, and is set to return to Brendan Rodgers’ first-team this week after serving a 10m-match ban.
It has since been speculated that the Spaniards may sell Karim Benzema to fund a winter swoop for the Reds’ talismanic forward.
However, Perez has ruled out a move for Suarez, insisting that no deals are on the cards for the next transfer window.
“We will not be signing anyone in January,” he told the Daily Mail.
Real are set to instead hand young striker Alvaro Morata an increased role over the coming season.
The young Spaniard – who was linked with Liverpool and Tottenham over the summer – is rated highly by the club, and is seen as the ideal man to fill in for the departed Gonzalo Higuain.
