Liverpool are monitoring the situation of Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic after the 27 year-old emerged as a January transfer target for the Reds.
The Anfield outfit were reportedly interested in the Bosnian shot-stopper in 2013 but opted for Simon Mignolet instead after they were put off by the £15 million asking price.
However, Begovic has just 20 months remaining on his current contract at the Britannia Stadium which may persuade Liverpool to renew their interest in the player, with a reduced fee of £10 million being mooted.
The Reds conceded 50 league goals last season – a record for a team finishing as runners-up in the Premier League – and their defensive woes have continued this season, with Mignolet failing to impress between the sticks.
Brendan Rodgers’ men are 8th in the table with 14 points, while Stoke City go into Sunday’s match against Tottenham Hotspur in 13th place, although a win would see them leapfrog the Reds.
