Reina Snr talks up Barcelona move

Miguel Reina, father of Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina, is certain that his son would jump at the chance to leave Merseyside and join Barcelona , Sky Sports report.

The Catalan giants are on the hunt for a new shot stopper after Victor Valdes disclosed his intention not to sign a new contract to stay at the Nou Camp past next season.

Reina senior, a former Spain international who played over 100 games for Barca, suggested that his 30-year-old son could end his Anfield career and return to his former to replace Valdes as number one.

“I am absolutely convinced that Pepe would be more than delighted to return to his Barcelona, where they made him into an upstanding man from the time he arrived at the age of 12 until he left,” he said.

“I say it publicly: I would be delighted to see Pepe back at Barca, of course I would. What father would not like to see his son at Barca? He has already been there but to return would be extraordinary.

Reina Snr continued “Pepe has shown sufficient proof of the calibre of goalkeeper he is and right now – and sorry for the lack of modesty – he would be up to the task and the ideal keeper for FC Barcelona.”

Pepe Reina has been linked with moves away from Anfield all season, with Arsenal among those reportedly interested in the Spaniard.

It remains to be seen as to whether Brendan Rodgers would be willing to let Reina leave this summer, although Liverpool have been linked with a move for Valdes in recent weeks.
