Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain suffered a devastating blow in April when he tore ligaments in his knee during Liverpool’s Champions League semi-final first leg against Roma.
Little did the rest of us know, the blow was much more damaging than initially suggested.
Last week, Reds manager Jurgen Klopp revealed to reporters that it will be a “bonus” if Oxlade-Chamberlain features in a competitive fixture during the 2018-19 season.
The midfielder, who missed England’s World Cup campaign in Russia, will spend the campaign recovering.
When the news came to light, we asked you whether the Merseyside outfit should try to sign Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek as a replacement for the season.
The 22-year-old would not be a direct replacement, but his versatile nature across the middle of the park suggests that he could carry out Oxlade-Chamberlain’s job, as well as some others if required.
The powerful energy and technical touch of Loftus-Cheek is something that has earned the midfielder many admirers.
It is unsure if Klopp will consider hunting for a replacement given that he has a handful of midfielders to call upon, but if he does, then plenty of Liverpool supporters would be keen to see Loftus-Cheek come to Anfield.
