Revealed: Majority of Liverpool fans want Wijnaldum to start final over Lallana

Jurgen Klopp has assembled a frontline that can tear apart any backline in Europe but behind that attacking trio sits a midfield that relentlessly presses Liverpool’s opposition, limiting their ability to breathe and providing the bullets for Mo Salah and co.

It is not an engine room full of classy passers like Manchester City – after all, Klopp believes that gegenpressing is more efficient in terms of creating chances than any playmaker in the world – but it is absolutely ideal for Liverpool’s heavy metal gameplan.

That approach has seen Englishmen James Milner and Jordan Henderson given a new lease of life and there is little doubt that the pair will start the Champions League final in Kiev against Real Madrid, fitness permitting.

Only injury in the first leg of the semi-final clash with Roma prevents Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain making it an all-English affair in midfield for the Reds in pursuit of their sixth Champions League trophy but the returning Adam Lallana could do just that.

The former Southampton man may have narrowly missed out on England’s World Cup squad – he is on standby – but he is back in contention and that’s why we asked you whether he should get Gigi Wijnaldum’s spot in the starting 11 for the showpiece occasion.

The response was overwhelmingly in support of the Dutchman, with 77 per cent of them calling for Klopp not to take a gamble on the fitness of Lallana and to start the former Newcastle man in the final.
