The name Denis Cheryshev will have rung a few bells with Liverpool fans as the Russian international netted a stunning brace in the opening game of the 2018 World Cup on Thursday. The Villarreal winger was a reported target of Brendan Rodgers back in summer 2015, but an Anfield move never quite materialised.

So after a majestic performance in the World Cup curtain-raiser, including an audacious goal from the edge of the box, we recently asked Liverpool fans whether their club should revive their interest in the 27-year-old instead of signing apparent target Xherdan Shaqiri.

While our poll revealed that most Liverpool fans would stick with the Shaqiri pursuit, a significant minority of 39% from those who took part want Jurgen Klopp to switch his focus to the World Cup goalscorer.

Liverpool certainly need added depth in attack to support Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah. Are there any alternatives to Shaqiri and Cheryshev you'd like to see arrive at Anfield this summer, Reds fans? Let us know by commenting below...
