According to a recent report from Daily Mirror, Liverpool are pursuing the transfer or RB Leipzig's Timo Werner but might also face some competition from Chelsea.

The same outlet also states that the 23-year-old forward is rated at around £60m and both Jurgen Klopp and Frank Lampard could go toe to toe for his signature.

Call yourself a Liverpool expert? How much did each of these big-money January signings cost?

Still, the German manager is also said to be a long-time admirer and would very much like to make him a permanent part of the well-oiled machine that is this Liverpool squad.

And if we delve into the numbers a bit more, we can see that, although he is not just there yet, Werner could be someone who could offer something similar to Roberto Firmino in the long run.

For a slightly better grasp on both of their player profiles, we'll be using the career stats they've accumulated so far and compare them to their current run of form in 2019/20.

There are a couple of things, however, that have to be noted before we take a closer look at the two stars.

Firstly, Firmino has had a much longer career to date, tallying 27248 minutes, while Werner, seeing how he's the younger of the two, has played 16207 minutes.

Also, all the stats were taken prior to their respective upcoming clashes, against Wolves and Eintracht Frankfurt.

We know that Firmino is much more than just a simple goalscorer and when we take a closer look at his figures, they do support this thesis.

Across the course of his career, a return of 1.6 key passes and 2.3 dribbles per game suggest he's a creative force that can both set up and finish, as evidenced by the 112 goals he's scored and 71 assists provided throughout his career.

At Liverpool, we often see him drop deeper into the midfield in order to give the Reds a numerical superiority and ease the progress of the ball into the final third, creating and exploiting space along the way.

Over the years, the Brazilian has also ironed out his security and reliability on the ball, and we can see that with both his passing accuracy and times dispossessed per game improving in 2019/20 when compared to his career average.

Needless to say, any striker would have trouble filling Firmino's boots but the young German just might be on the right path, as we'll discover when delving into the figures.

Werner was much more of a classic striker at the beginning of his career, utilising his pace and a keen eye for goal to rattle the inside of the net.

This is a trait that he managed to retain over the years, scoring 94 and assisting 37 to this date, which is fairly close to the Brazilian's tally despite a huge game time discrepancy between the two.

His career average of 0.9 key passes and one dribble per game may suggest that he needs to develop the creative aspect of his play, and the stats from this season serve to underline how far he has moved in the right direction.

The Bundesliga star has completed 1.7 key passes and 1.8 dribbles in the ongoing campaign, edging out Firmino's 1.4 and 1.7 respectively as things stand.

His passing accuracy this season has also improved, rising from his career average of 72.2% to the current 77.7%, indicating that he's become more technical and stronger on the ball, which is exactly was he should be aspiring to become if he's to join the Reds.

Judging by that, Klopp would surely be getting a huge prospect if he manages to snatch the 23-year-old up from Leipzig and, with time, he could be moulded into a perfect Firmino alternative in the not so distant future.
