The summer has been dominated by the future of the Uruguyan forward, who recently joined up with his Liverpool teammates on their pre-season tour in Australia.
The forward is set to hold face-to-face talks with Rodgers regarding his future, with the Liverpool manager determined to keep hold of his most prized asset.
“Football and society are different nowadays,” Rodgers said.
“The market is totally different and players can create different ways to open it up.
“I have always said that there is no player bigger than Liverpool Football Club. That is something we are very strong on.
“It is something we will control. This situation won’t be controlled by the player. I am very strong on the values of the club, where we are and how we operate.
“Do I expect him to stay? Very much so. A lot has been said but the reality is that he is a player of great importance.”
Arsenal have so far shown the most interest in the player, and are understood to have held further talks about an improved offer for the forward on Monday.
Suarez was pictured training with his teammates laughing and joking, giving no impression he was unhappy to have joined up with the squad in Melbourne.
He is expected to feature for the Reds for the first time since biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic in April, during their pre-season friendly against Melbourne Victory on Wednesday.
