Rodgers lines up Liverpool icon for shock coaching role at Celtic

Brendan Rodgers is lining up an audacious move to make Steven Gerrard his player-assistant manager at Celtic, report the Sun.

The Northern Irishman was confirmed yesterday as the Bhoys’ new boss on a 12 month rolling contract as they gear up for the return of Rangers to top flight Scottish football.

Major changes are expected in Glasgow as the former Swansea City coach looks to reignite a side that has somehow managed to stagnate despite winning 5 league titles in a row.

Now, according to the report, the ex-Liverpool chief is ready to make a substantial offer to Gerrard to get him to move to Parkhead as he plots his revolution.

The former England captain is under contract with the LA Galaxy until December, though could reportedly be tempted by the prospect of moving in to a coaching role.

He called an end to his illustrious Reds career in May 2015 in order to move stateside, while the Merseyside giants were still under the control of Rodgers.
