Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah have once again been in fantastic form so far this campaign.
Between them, the two have scored 27 goals as Liverpool have jumped to the top of the Premier League standings. Their form is nothing new, though – last season, they finished fourth and fifth in the Ballon d’Or rankings respectively, as the Reds lifted the Champions League trophy in Madrid.
The big fat Liverpool quiz of 2019 – how much do you remember about the last year at Anfield?
Add in Naby Keita, who has been in resurgent form with three goals in his last six games for Jurgen Klopp’s men, and the Anfield outfit have some of the best African players on the planet at their disposal.
As such, the news that the trio could be missing for six weeks due to the timing of next year’s African Cup of Nations could be a huge blow to the 52-year-old’s plans for next term, as James Pearce insinuated.
The tournament has been held in the summer in the last few years, but the 2021 edition will be in January.

Liverpool fans have been reacting to this tweet in huge numbers, and some fans are not happy to say the least.
Damn that’s bad mane is going to be missed

They’re doing everything to stop Liverpool from winning back to back to back league titles

This is ridiculous. It takes some of the best talent out of the Premier League and other major European leagues mid-season. Why can’t the CAF plan the competition in line with the Euros, so those players get at least one proper summer off every other year?

No way this is ridiculous decision. African players getting chance to play for top clubs now they bring back winter tournament. Teams aren’t going to want to buy these players now because losing them during season is going to hurt. Shocked at this decision.

Liverpool losing three players, two of which are guaranteed starters and are part of the club’s famed front three, would be a big loss, especially during what could be a crucial time of the campaign.
Not everyone is so pessimistic, though, with some believing that the Premier League title could be already sewn up by then.
League will be over by then anyway so no worries
— Aaron (@BrewsterRoIe) January 15, 2020
Consecutive league title will be wrapped up by then, not a problem.
— Ross Kelly (@rossmkelly92) January 15, 2020
Confident talk from the fans here, but considering they are already 14 points clear with a game in hand after just 21 games so far this term, it certainly isn’t beyond the realms of possibility to have such a commanding lead by then.

Others, meanwhile, have said that potential new signings could cushion the blow, suggesting high-profile names like Kylian Mbappe and Jadon Sancho.
It’s okay James we’ll have Mbappe

Best sign Sancho and Mbappe then as back up

It remains to be seen what kind of impact it has on the Reds next season.
