Alberto Monero could find himself joined at Anfield this summer by Sevilla team-mate and fellow Liverpool target Ivan Rakitic.
The Croatia international has just come to the end of a real coming-of-age campaign, amassing twelve goals and ten assists in La Liga, whilst his performances on the continent have been the driving force behind Los Palanganos claiming this season’s Europa League title.
The 25 year-old’ boasts an exceptional all-round game, averaging 1.6 tackles, 1.7 interceptions, 2.4 shots, 2.3 key passes and 2.2 successful crosses per match. In tandem with Rakitic’s incredible engine and obvious leadership qualities – currently serving as Sevilla and Croatian skipper – many have compared the former Basel and Schalke star to Steven Gerrard, viewing him as a potential successor to Liverpool’s Captain Fantastic.
Furthermore, despite announcing his intentions in January to sign a new contract and remain in south Spain next season, negotiations are yet to get underway and the creative midfielder is set to enter the summer window with just a year left on his current deal.
That could result in Rakitic leaving Sevilla for around £20million according to the tabloids. But with Manchester United, Chelsea and Real Madrid all linked, and the platform of the World Cup to further showcase his abilities, the Croatia star’s price-tag could soar this summer.
