Liverpool fans will argue Stoke hardman Steven N’Zonzi is a bit below their calibre.
But the Reds desperately need to find some like-minded cover for Lucas Leiva in January and the Frenchman has been linked with moves to big clubs before.
Since arriving in England from Amiens SC in 2009, N’zonzi has proved himself a competent Premier League standard defensive midfielder, enjoying promising spells with Blackburn and the Potters.
Now 24 years of age, having improved on his discipline and his all round game over the last four years, it could be time to give N’Zonzi his shot at a major club. In the summer, he handed in a transfer request at the Britannia stadium, suggesting the former France U21 is ambitious enough to force a move if the opportunity arose.
Measuring in at 6 foot 4 and donning considerable power and pace, the Stoke man would certainly provide some added physical prowess to the Reds’ midfield, which could give them an edge in the heavyweight encounters this season.
The Potters’ valuation remains unknown but it’s assumed he’d be available for well under the £10million mark.
