The Slovakian has lost his place in the Reds’ starting XI in recent weeks, with manager Brendan Rodgers appearing to have lost faith in his abilities.
This has led to speculation that Williams, a player the Northern Irishman coached when with the Swans, could be brought in to replace the 28-year-old as the club look to overhaul their defensive options.
But, Skrtel’s agent, Karol Csonto, played down talk of transfer dealings, insisting that little attention is being paid to such matters:
“I don’t read things like this, because such news I consider just speculation,” Csonto is quoted by Sky Sports via hnonline.sk.
Skrtel himself has been linked with a move away from Anfield in recent times, with former club Zenit Saint-Petersburg believed to be interested in taking him back to Russia.
However, Csonto insisted that the centre-back’s future is not in doubt and that everything will be dealt with at the end of the season:
“Martin still has a valid contract with Liverpool and we are not going to discuss his future during the season,
“In the summer, we will see what intentions Liverpool have with him and will decide accordingly.”
