It has not been the best of months for Manchester United.

The Red Devils have suffered disappointing defeats to the likes of Arsenal and Burnley, and are yet to complete a single signing in this January transfer window either. Bruno Fernandes has looked like he could be on the way to Old Trafford, but with less than a week left to get deals done, that has still not been completed.

With Marcus Rashford injured for the foreseeable future, a new striker has become a necessity. However, rather than aiming for the biggest names in the game, a Sky Sports report has seen them linked with loan moves for Odion Ighalo and Islam Slimani.

The big fat Liverpool quiz of 2019 - how much do you remember about the last year at Anfield?

Given that Ighalo is playing in the Chinese Super League and Slimani is on loan at Monaco after failing to make the grade at Leicester City, it is no surprise to see that lots of Liverpool fans are enjoying these links.

Considering United's pedigree in the game - they have the most league titles in the country, for a start - you would expect them to have more pull than this in the transfer market.

One supporter made reference to the Reds' own struggles in the striker department in the past.

The Anfield outfit didn't always have the likes of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino at their disposal. Between them, Borini, Balotelli and Lambert scored just 10 goals in 102 matches in all competitions for the Merseyside club.

One other fan, meanwhile, believes that this interest is four years too late.

In 2016, these transfers would have made sense. Slimani banged in 27 goals in 33 matches in Liga NOS for Sporting CP, whilst Ighalo scored 16 in 37 Premier League matches for Watford.

But now we're in 2020, and the duo have fallen completely off the radar, plying their trades elsewhere. It is a sign of the desperate times that the Red Devils are in that they are contemplating loan swoops for either of them. Surely United can do better than this?

Elsewhere, Klopp wants to add this man to his squad.
