Liverpool say they have had no offers for Agger as yet though, and Brendan Rodgers has insisted that the Dane, 28, is an important part of his side going into the new season.
“He’s obviously a world-class defender. Daniel is very committed to Liverpool; he’s one of the players that have really impressed me,” Rodgers said at a press conference earlier this week.
“He gave me his word that for as long as I wanted him to be at Liverpool, he would be at Liverpool. He has never swayed from that.”
Agger, however, is a defender Barcelona are prepared to pursue if they are unable to lure Luiz from west London.
Speculation continues to surround Luiz, who has been the subject of a bid from the Catalan giants. Jose Mourinho maintains that the Portuguese defender will not be leaving Stamford Bridge though.
Meanwhile at Liverpool, it is believed the Anfield club have changed their stance on the future of Agger’s defensive partner Martin Skrtel, who was told last week he could leave the club.
Both centre-backs missed Wedensday’s 4-1 friendly victory against Valarenga, in Norway, after picking up minor knocks.
