Liverpool have joined Bayern Munich in taking an interest in Sporting Lisbon striker Gelson, according to A Bola.

What's the word?

The 22-year-old joined Sporting just last year to continue his development in the 'B' team.

Gelson has only made one appearance for the first team, but it is believed that he has caught the eye on loan at Rio Ave.

The Angolan international has made four appearances for the Primeira Liga side, scoring twice in total.

For his country, the youngster has struck nine times in 18 outings, and is understood to be wanted by Bayern Munich and Liverpool, according to A Bola.

Should Liverpool prioritise Gelson swoop?

There is no doubt that the striker is showing signs of becoming a top star, but there is a big stumbling block.

Gelson is tied down to Sporting until 2022 and it would cost any club £53m to break the contract.

In the current market, that figure seems to be the going rate, but not for young players who are yet to prove themselves at a more elite competitive level.

From Liverpool's perspective, manager Jurgen Klopp has a prolific front three of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

Therefore it makes very little sense to spend that amount of money on a striker that will be on the fringes.
