Brendan Rodgers has been handed a massive boost by the news Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is set to sign a contract extension at the club, according to the Daily Mail.
The 33-year-old is entering the final year of his current deal at Anfield, and it is understood talks over an extension have gone smoothly.
The club legend is on the verge of putting pen to paper on a new deal, perhaps before his testimonial against Olympiakos on August 3rd.
Liverpool were said to have opened talks of an extension with their skipper in the Spring, with it being said it was ‘only a matter of time’ before the deal was concluded.
The slight delay led to a few questions being asked, although now it appears Gerrard is to put any lingering fears to bed and commit the rest of his career to the Anfield club.
It is the first time since Gerrard made his debut for the club in 1998 that he has entered a season in the final year of his contract, but with Rodgers confirming he is still as important to the club as ever before, the news will come as a huge boost to everyone connected with Liverpool.
