Striker too expensive for Liverpool

Porto striker Jackson Martinez

Highly-rated Porto striker Jackson Martinez is said to be on Liverpool’s wanted list but they face a battle to land him.

Not only is Brendan Rodgers interested in the Colombian but Premier League rivals Manchester United, Galatasaray and a number of big-spending Russian clubs as well, so Rodgers faces an uphill battle to bring him to Anfield.

Portuguese newspaper O Jogo claims that Porto are now preparing themselves for a huge bid for the prolific striker with Turkish giants Galatasaray ready to open the bidding at a whopping £37.5m but, with the Russians also set to match that sort of offer, it all could be too rich for the Reds whose new signings now have to be approved by a committee at the club.

After joining from Mexican club Jaguares last summer, Martinez has scored 23 goals in 25 league appearances in Portugal this season.
