Sturridge misses out on England call-up, Liverpool fans react

Not many Liverpool fans would have batted an eyelid had Daniel Sturridge been sold last summer.

The striker fell down the pecking order under manager Jurgen Klopp, but he has since had a revival.

During pre-season the striker impressed his German coach, and while a starting position was always going to be unlikely, he has secured a regular spot on the bench.

Last weekend, the 29-year-old earned a point for the Reds after coming off the bench and hitting a sublime strike into the top corner to draw 1-1 with Chelsea.

Since the 2018-19 season got underway, Sturridge has made nine appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals.

In total, the striker has 68 goals under his belt in a Liverpool shirt, but his positive start to the campaign has not been good enough to earn a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

Sturridge has not played for his country since October 2017, and it looks as though the forward will have to wait even longer to earn his 27th cap.

Southgate opted not to include the attacker in his squad for Nations League matches against Croatia and Spain later this month.

Jordan Henderson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez are the Liverpool representatives in the England setup for the upcoming internationals.

On Twitter, some Liverpool fans expressed disappointment in Sturridge being snubbed, while others were happy that he did not get the nod due to fear of injury.
