Teixeira confirms he wants Liverpool move amid suggestions deal has all but collapsed

Shakhtar Donetsk’s Alex Teixeira has confirmed that he wants to join Liverpool this month amid suggestions that a deal between the two sides has all but collapsed.

The 26-year-old Brazilian attacking midfielder has emerged as a major target for the club over the course of the past week, with the Reds known to have had an opening offer of around £24.5m rejected by the Ukrainian heavyweights.

And despite Shakhtar’s manager, Mircea Lucescu, stating that he does not want to “keep a player against his desire”, Sky Sports have claimed that a deal ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline is unlikely to go forward.

But, speaking exclusively to Anfield HQ (video below), Teixeira said that he hopes a move to Merseyside will happen in the coming days:

“I know my agent is doing everything possible to get me to Liverpool.” He said.

“The team [Shakhtar] received one official offer from Liverpool. It was rejected. I don’t know why.

“It was a great offer. It is frustrating. But the manager and club president decided against it.

“So now I’m just waiting. Trying to be patient.”

When asked directly if he thinks he’ll be playing for Liverpool for the latter half of the season, Teixeira said:

“I don’t know. It’s tough to answer that. I want to be there.”

Liverpool fans are known to be eager to see Teixeira in the red shirt, and club legend John Barnes told FootballFanCast that he hopes a deal will be agreed.
