There is no denying that Gary Hooper knows how to score goals.
His strike rate in the lower leagues of English football is strong, and for Celtic he’s been prolific, with 82 goals in 137 appearances, but we have seen this kind of outrageous form before from SPL forwards.
Kenny Miller was once alleged to be taking the Premier League by storm when he signed for Derby County after strong spells with the Bhoys and Rangers, but managed to score just four goals in 30 appearances in the English top flight.
Similarly, Kris Boyd scored nearly a goal per game for Rangers, but ruined his career with a move to the Championship, scoring just six times in the space of a season for Middlesbrough.
The fact is, the SPL is an unknown quantity due to it’s lack of quality, and any transfer from the Scottish to the English top flight presents a huge risk.
