There’s no way back for Liverpool villain, & here’s why

We could all see it, we all knew what was about to happen. Dejan Lovren last night stepped up to take a vital penalty in Liverpool’s Europa League shoot-out with Besiktas, and the pressure was really on after nine efforts had all hit the back of the net in the Ataturk Stadium. The Croatian centre-back was a puzzling choice for the vital shot, and having had the table laid for him to ruin his Anfield career, he duly smashed the ball wildly off target, which was no real shock.

Lovren is, however, not paid to score goals and showed some bottle to step up, but his days in the red shirt look to be numbered, with his performances where it matters not really that impressive either. And the stats surrounding the effects of a switch to a back three of Emre Can – who is a midfielder! – Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho illustrate that he’s really not needed. £20m down the drain already? It would appear so, and the trolling he received was hilarious, we mean awful…
