On Saturday afternoon, Gareth Southgate’s England side put in an accomplished performance to see off Sweden in a World Cup quarter-final fixture.
The victory means progress to the semi-finals for England, marking the first time the Three Lions have reached that stage of a World Cup competition since 1990.
History was made against Sweden on Saturday, and Jordan Henderson was literally at the centre of it all as he dominated in the middle of the park for England.
Henderson’s measured and professional performance allowed England to dictate the tempo of much of the match and kept Southgate’s side in control. The Liverpool skipper shielded his defence effectively, breaking down several Swedish counterattacks, and was also the instigator of much of England’s attacking play.
Several of England’s players shone in the game against Sweden. Jordan Pickford, who plays his club football for Everton, Liverpool’s biggest rivals, received the Man of the Match award. Of course the goalscorers, Spurs’ Dele Alli and Leicester’s Harry Maguire, were also highly praised.
Plenty of England supporters voiced their appreciation of Jordan Henderson on Twitter after the game as well…

Got to be in the team of the tournament now. Not many better central midfielders in this world class. Only 1 I can think of is Modric.
