Liverpool should ponder a move for Bayern Munich’s Thiago Alcantara this summer as Jurgen Klopp attempts to bolster the club’s midfield options.

What's the word?

The Merseyside outfit have been linked to numerous midfielders so far this summer, but they are still yet to replace Philippe Coutinho following the Brazilian’s January switch to Barcelona.

The list of targets have been endless, but there is one man who has not been mentioned among the gossip pages, and that is Bayern Munich’s Thiago Alcantara.

The 30-cap Spain international would not be a direct replacement for Coutinho, but his forward-thinking approach coupled with his tackling ability provides a different creative outlet.

According to report in Sport earlier this month, Bayern have slapped a £45m price tag on Alcantara, who is yet to agree a new deal with the Bavarians.

Don't Liverpool have enough midfielders?

The goalkeeping position is arguably more of a pressing matter for the Reds, but Klopp seems to be prioritising midfield options.

The club already have Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, Adam Lallana and Georginio Wijnaldum, as well as new signings Naby Keita and Fabinho.

If Alcantara was added to the mix, it would make that area of the pitch that much more fill, but he possesses qualities that the other midfielders listed do not.

Whether Liverpool would be able to secure a deal for the Spaniard remains to be seen, but they should certainly consider him.
