Adam Lallana is set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season.

The 31-year-old has less than six months left on his contract and, as it stands, it seems the Anfield outfit are not willing to extend his contract at the end of the campaign. As such, time is running out on his six-year stay in Merseyside - although he will be hoping to add a Premier League medal to his trophy cabinet before he does exit the club.

A replacement, therefore, may be needed for the former Southampton man in the long-term, and that could very well be Norwich City's Todd Cantwell.

According to The Athletic's David Ornstein, the Reds are the front-runners for the 21-year-old, with the Canaries likely to seek £30m.

The England U21 international's main position is left midfield - that is where he has played the most according to Transfermarkt - but he has also played a considerable amount of matches in central and attacking midfield.

It is the opposite for Lallana - he has played the most of his matches in the middle, but has also featured regularly on the left flank. Not only that, the two have both played in defensive midfield, as well, something that may be of interest to Jurgen Klopp.

Lallana's best campaign under the 52-year-old came in the 2016/17 season, when he managed eight goals and seven assists in the Premier League. During that season, he averaged 1.6 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per match, which are not too dissimilar to what Cantwell has managed this term - he has 1.4, 1.1 and 1.4 respectively.

Obviously, his nationality gives the comparison even more weight. £30m would be a steep fee considering Lallana has featured in just 18 matches in all competitions so far this campaign, but at 21 and having impressed, Cantwell could be molded into exactly what Klopp wants in the future.

For now, though, he is definitely well-placed to take Lallana's slot. It remains to be seen whether Liverpool make their move.

Meanwhile, Liverpool target this 20-year-old who is as good as Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk in one area.
