Former Liverpool striker John Toshack has told talkSPORT that a decision will have to made on Jurgen Klopp's future if he fails to win silverware this season.

What did he say?

The German coach arrived at Anfield in October 2015 with plenty of pedigree having guided Borussia Dortmund to five trophies, including two Bundesliga titles.

Since replacing Brendan Rodgers, Klopp has overseen the Reds reach three finals - the League Cup, Europa League and Champions League - but they have lost all of them.

In the current campaign, Liverpool are in the hunt for the Premier League title, as well as the FA Cup and Champions League, but if they fail to go all the way in a competition, then Toshack believes Klopp could be in trouble.

The former Wales boss told talkSPORT:

“If Liverpool don’t win a trophy this year then they’ve got a decision to make [about Klopp]. Things look really good at the moment, but this is Klopp’s third full season at Liverpool and this is the acid test for him."

Does he have a point?

A club of Liverpool's stature demands success and a six-year wait for a trophy is far too long.

In this day and age managers lose their jobs simply after a poor run of results, and it is not unreasonable for Toshack to suggest that Klopp's future should be up for a debate if the Reds end the campaign without silverware.

However, there is no denying how much the German coach has transformed the club, not only with the style of football but a feel-good factor is now back at Anfield.

Liverpool's main aim this season is to win the league title, but with Manchester City in devastating form once again, it will not be a huge failure if Klopp and his men miss out.

Plus, there are not many world-class managers available to replace the German if he were to be sacked.

If Liverpool miss out on the title by a thin margin, then Klopp's job should not be under threat, but if next season is another without silverware, then questions should be asked.
