Transfer twist: Liverpool boss keen to keep exit-linked ace after developments

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is keen to keep Lucas Leiva at Anfield for the time being despite speculation about the Brazilian’s future, according to reports from the Liverpool Echo.

The 29-year-old is one of the Reds’ senior stars following the exits of the likes of Steven Gerrard in recent years, but his own place on Merseyside has been the subject of rumours of late.

It’s been mooted that Lucas may be heading to Turkey to sign for Galatasaray before the end of the current transfer window, however reports now claim that Klopp wants to keep him around.

Although a defensive-minded midfielder, the experienced ace has been used at centre-back on multiple occasions over the course of the past 12 months, and with Mamadou Sakho, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez injured he’s a genuine option in the role heading into the new campaign.

Lucas is now in the final 12 months of his Liverpool contract and Klopp is aware that he may not be able to hand the player the game time he craves, and will only allow him to move on if the situation changes over the coming weeks.
