Dejan Lovren’s Liverpool career has not gone to plan. Signed for almost £20m last summer, the Croatian was expected to come in and become the leader at the back for the Reds on the back of a fine season at Southampton. However, with the 2014/15 campaign now ticking to a close, Lovren is, arguably, behind Kolo Toure in Brendan Rodgers’ pecking order, struggles to get into the team and is most famous for missing a vital penalty in a Europa League shootout.
Back in the side due to a variety of injuries and suspensions, Lovren was once again up to his old trick at Anfield in the first half, giving away what looked to be a stone wall penalty. The centre-back released a woeful air kick, missing the ball by a mile, before connecting with Ayoze Perez’s shin. The Spaniard fell, but no spot-kick was given. Scandalous.
