Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt has been mentioned across the media in recent weeks now that the transfer window is edging closer to opening.

The 18-year-old is being considered by Tottenham Hotspur fans as a possible summer target, while numerous other clubs have also been linked to his signature.

According to anfieldedition.uk, the Dutchman's compatriot Virgil van Dijk has been advising Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to swoop for the ball-playing defender.

Plenty of questions have been raised over the quality of Liverpool's defence this season, but Van Dijk has managed to organise and marshal the back line since his arrival from Southampton in January.
