According to reports from A Bola, Arsenal have joined the transfer battle to sign Sporting Lisbon striker Islam Slimani after missing out on a deal for Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy.
The Gunners activated the England international’s £20million release clause before Euro 2016 and expected a decision on his future once the tournament had come to an end.
But Leicester City confirmed on their club website earlier this week that the Premier League title winner had agreed to sign a four-year contract at the King Power Stadium instead.
According to A Bola, that disappointment has seen Arsenal join the race to sign Islam Slimani, who bagged 31 goals in 44 appearances across all competitions last season.
Last month, The Sun mooted the 28-year-old as a prime strike target for Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City, and Arsenal may have to fend off interest from both clubs to seal his signature.
Slimani’s contract includes a £24million release clause.
