“Take a bow Alisson… and indeed his mother for giving birth to him!”
That’s the verdict of Pl>ymaker FC’s Tom Skinner who admits the Brazilian goalkeeper was the only thing standing in the way of Tottenham Hotspur winning their first ever Champions League title in a final they “didn’t deserve to lose”.
The Reds’ number thirteen made a number of key saves to deny the likes of Son, Eriksen and Moura and his performance in the Liverpool goal was a stark contrast to that of the calamitous Loris Karius in last season’s final in Kiev.
Although a “delighted” Liverpool fan himself, Skinner was keen to heap praise on Mauricio Pochettino’s men and dismissed any notion that they had “bottled” the occasion.
It was certainly a far from vintage one and he even believes it may have been Liverpool’s “most straightforward and uneventful final since 2003”.
There were no heroic comebacks or penalty shootouts this time round but that isn’t stopping him from getting a Jurgen Klopp tattoo or *ahem* “showing his appreciation” to a Virgil Van Dijk scarf.
