Jurgen Klopp is clearly a keen admirer of Emre Can, often turning to the German international for Liverpool's most important and physical games, and many would argue that admiration is justified; aged just 23, versatile, athletic and already capable of producing Goals of the Season, the midfielder appears to have a big future ahead of him.

The bad news, though, is that Can's contract will expire at the end of the season, meaning Liverpool may be forced to sell in January or risk losing their powerful midfielder for nothing come the summer. The list of reported suitors already suggests Can will receive significant and tempting offers from elsewhere.

But Spanish publication Sport have inadvertently suggested a rightful successor in Can's compatriot, Leon Goretzka. The 12-cap German has been linked with the Premier League countless times before but with his contract expiring as well, meaning he can be snapped up on the cheap in January, Sport believe he'll turn down interest from the Spanish giants to secure a move to England - mooting Liverpool as one of the two clubs 'best poised' to do a deal alongside Chelsea.

No doubt, Goretzka would be a huge coup for Liverpool and a fantastic addition to their midfield. Often compared to German great Michael Ballack, what stands out most about the 22-year-old is a finely-assembled all-round game; he makes tackles and interceptions, he's a fearsome threat in the air, he can control games with the ball and he's become notorious for rasping shots from long-range.

Accordingly, Goretzka's Schalke career has already seen him lined up as a winger, a No.10, a box-to-box mifielder and a holding midfielder.

That makes him ideal for Chelsea's two-man midfield setup as well, providing a varied and dynamic game in a similar manner to summer signing Tiemoue Bakayoko. With huge competition for places in midfield at Stamford Bridge already though, Liverpool would give Goretzka the platform to truly showcase his abilities and take his game to the next level - especially when lining up alongside Naby Keita, who'll move to Merseyside in the summer.

So, would you sell Can in January and replace him with Goretzka, Liverpool fans? Let us know by voting below...
