You what? Liverpool fans amazed by strange Martin Tyler remark

Lots of baffled Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after Martin Tyler questioned Trent Alexander-Arnold’s international credentials live on air.

The 20-year-old was lining up for the Three Lions in what was his first appearance since winning the Champions League final, and he created a whopping seven chances alone on an afternoon where he was by far and away England’s Man of the Match.

However, that didn’t stop Tyler from asking Gary Neville during Sky Sports’ coverage of England’s clash with Switzerland: “Is Trent Alexander-Arnold good enough defensively to play international football at right-back in a four?”

This is a player who has appeared in two Champions League finals before his 21st birthday, and was part of the Premier League’s most watertight defence last term conceding just 22 goals – of course he’s good enough.

Throughout the rest of the game, Tyler and Neville continued to rave about the Liverpool academy graduate and made a number of comparisons to David Beckham as a result of the youngster’s excellent crossing; it was certainly a strange comment from Tyler given how appraising he was of Alexander-Arnold afterwards.

Rightly so, the Liverpool fans on Twitter were also baffled by the odd remark…
