Man City, Arsenal & Man United eye Barcelona veteran

Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City are plotting shock summer moves for Barcelona’s ageing midfielder Xavi, according to reports from the Daily Star.

It is understood that the 34-year-old – who has won just about every prize possible in club and international football during a stunning career – is looking for one last big challenge before he hangs up his boots.

Agents are rumoured to have been in contact with the Premier League trio, who are all open to the idea of handing Xavi a fresh opportunity.

Although e is widely seen as ‘Mr Barca’, the metronomic midfielder may well be axed this summer amid talk of a massive overhaul at the Nou Camp to usher in a new era of success on the back of a fantastic 10 years.

City are said to be particularly keen, with Txiki Begirirstain, a director of football at the club, having close ties with the Catalan outfit.

Cross-city rivals United are also in the running as they plan to add quality to their squad on the back of a disastrous campaign, while Arsenal see him as a good fit in their XI.

Xavi is unlikely to cost much in terms of a transfer fee, but he would command wages of over £150,000-per-week.
