English football’s only hope of salvaging its reputation as the greatest league in the world rests in Manchester City’s hands, following the embarrassing exits for Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal. However, it won’t be easy for the Citizens.
Following a 2-1 defeat back at the Etihad Stadium to Barcelona, Manuel Pellegrini’s side have to pull off a miracle at the Nou Camp tonight.
City come into this game tonight on the back of a bad run of form – epitomised by the 1-0 defeat to Burnley at the weekend – having won just three of their last 10 games in all competitions.
Pellegrini has recognised the need for a change and, finally, the former Malaga manager appears to have given up with his two up top. There were plenty of groans when Pellegrini partnered Aguero and Dzeko upfront against the Catalan giants in the first-leg and it backfired. Therefore, as I’m sure you can imagine, the City faithful were delighted to see just Sergio Aguero spearheading their hopes and dreams at the Camp Nou.
