The Sunday Express are claiming that Manchester City are preparing to make an audacious bid to sign Angel Di Maria from fierce rivals Manchester United.
Di Maria only signed for the Red Devils last summer for a British transfer record £60m from Real Madrid and made an excellent start to his Old Trafford career, finding the net three times in his first five league matches.
However, his performances dipped towards the end of the season and he was dropped to the bench by manager Louis Van Gaal in the final few games of the campaign.
City director of football Txiki Begiristain is believed to have been monitoring the Argentine winger’s situation and has spoken to his the club’s board about the possibility of a sensational transfer.
Nevertheless, it has also been claimed that Di Maria is holding out for a move to a club outside the Premier League, with Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Barcelona all being linked with the player.
Di Maria is currently on international duty with Argentina at the 2015 Copa America in Chile.
