Manchester City could beat Arsenal to the signing of Schalke star Julian Draxler, according to Metro.
The Gunners came close to signing the German international last January – with the player admitting he wanted a move to the Emirates Stadium.
But now Manchester City are confident of bringing him to the Etihad, with defender Matija Nastasic expected to go the other way.
Schalke are interested in Nastastic, but are only willing to have him on loan before paying City’s £10million asking price. And an agreement could be made to ensure Draxler is part of any deal that sees City’s bit-part defender leave for the Bundesliga.
Draxler has made only eight appearances for Schalke this season after suffering with a number of injuries since winning the World Cup with Germany in the summer.
