Betting is part of most football fans Saturday rituals; you place your mental accumulator, that, despite deep down you know has no chance of coming in, you get carried away with and begin to plan how much your life will change come 16:45 later in the day when the full-time whistles go and you’re thousands of pounds richer again.
The one that I’m pretty certain no punter put on today was a bizarre trio of Manchester United’s Chris Smalling, Liverpool’s Glen Johnson and Aston Villa’s Joe Cole all being the first goalscorer in their respective games against Hull City, Stoke City and Burnley.
Miracles do happen in football and the forgotten Joey Cole, the laughing stocks that are Chris Smalling and Glen Johnson all did the unthinkable and gave their teams the perfect early Christmas present.
If you had been mental enough to even consider such a possibilty, then just a cheeky £1 bet would’ve seen your bank account balance increase by almost £10,000!
A £1 treble on Joe Cole, Chris Smalling and Glen Johnson all to score first would have returned £9,724. Also would've got you sectioned.
