Manchester United star Jonny Evans and Newcastle United ace Papiss Cisse are set to face an investigation by the Football Association after appearing to spit at each other in last night’s clash at St. James’ Park, Sky Sports reports.
Five minutes before half-time, the two players clashed following an alleged spit from Evans, with Cisse then replying with a gush of saliva of his own.
The incident is set to result in some repercussions, because referee Anthony Taylor did not see the event, and will certainly be reviewed by the FA disciplinary board.
Both managers Louis van Gaal and John Carver also did not witness the argument, and both will hope that the subsequent punishment is not too harsh for their players.
“It is too far from the bench to see someone spitting,” Van Gaal said.
“I can’t judge it but I can’t imagine Jonny Evans – because he is a very modest person – would do that.”
And Newcastle boss Carver stated: “I haven’t seen the incident. I just saw a fracas on the halfway line between the two players.
“As far as I’m concerned I need to have a look at it.”
The Red Devils managed to get all three points, with Ashley Young scoring a late winner after the Newcastle defence failed to clear the ball following a run from Wayne Rooney.
